Temporary fencing in Littlehampton

The problem

When a fire broke out at the Harvester restaurant in Littlehampton, West Sussex the fire brigade were despatched quickly to extinguish the flames. The Harvester is situated in an busy part of the popular seaside town. It is surrounded by a playpark, beach, fun park and cinema. With crowds likely to congregate around what was fast becoming a spectacular site, the authorities needed to respond, so took action to keep the public and fire crews safe.

The solution

Fences were requested to be despatched and installed as quickly as possible to ‘cordon’ for the site to prevent access and keep the scene secure. A large crowd gathered as the fire took hold but, thanks to our fencing, crowds were kept a safe distance away from the burning building.

Our team supplied 70 Heras fencing sets with rubber feet and couplers within hours for the emergency project on the doorstep of our Littlehampton HQ.

The outcome

With the fire now extinguished, our fences are expected to remain on site until further notice to keep crowds at bay.

SafeSite Facilities Managing Director Michael Knibbs said: “The loss of the Harvester is a shame for the area. Fortunately no one was injured, and we were glad to be able to help, even in a small way.”

“This incident showed how important our fencing products are in securing dangerous areas. This includes things like fires to protect the public from falling debris. Thanks to our install team, we were able to help secure the site and prevent access to an ongoing emergency. It was a great job by our team.”
